Oak Grove Fork Silver Ring

Here we have a glassy piece of Oak Grove Fork jasper with a beautiful streak of red, set in a split shank silver ring.

This material comes from the tailings of an old mercury mine along the Oak Grove Fork of the Clackamas River in Oregon. Much of this material exhibits bizarre patterning and coloration, sometimes due to the mercury ore, cinnabar, which can sometimes be present in the material.
