Here we have a sterling silver split shank ring featuring a diamond-shaped cabochon of Ochoco Blue Jasper, which hails from Crook County in Central Oregon.
We collected this material in early spring off 2021. We’d travelled out to the Ochoco Mountains in search of yellow and red jasper. We hiked up into the mountains and searched fruitlessly for hours. Once it started snowing we were ready to admit defeat, descend the mountain, and eat sad lunch by our car, which was parked out by the Ochoco Reservoir. Once we were there Brittany saw a whole bunch of sharp-looking rocks with a drab brown exterior. Once we chipped at the stuff with a rock hammer it was clear that the brown was only a thin layer on the outside, and that the inside was rich with cadet blue, and sometimes even yellow and pink. We collected about 300 lbs of that material in the coming weeks, and we named it after the reservoir we found it beside.
