Stone Canyon Jasper Ring

Here we have a sterling silver ring featuring a rectangular cabochon of Stone Canyon Jasper from central California.

Stone Canyon Jasper is one of many varieties of brecciated jasper (or “jaspagate”) that can be found in California. This type of material only occurs in places with a history of pretty violent seismic activity. It began as solid orange jasper, that earthquakes broke apart, and that silica-rich water repaired by filling in the cracks within the material and then lithifying into agate.
